Longlining and purse seining are common methods used in tuna fishing. Longlining is a method of longlining in which a 140-150-kilometer-long mainline is released from the vessel and placed 120-150 meters below the surface of the water, suspended by floats, with a bait-carrying outrigger attached to the mainline, which sinks at a depth of 200-300 meters to lure the fish to take the bait. The purse seine fishery relies on advanced fish detection equipment, such as the new s-band seabird radar and Doppler sonar, to accurately detect the location and size of the fish, and then release the net to encircle the fish and set the net to catch them.
Once the tuna is caught on board, it is immediately put into a quick-freezing room, then ice-coated and stored in refrigerated tanks.
